Mid-Sized Law Firm-Technology Refresh
As a leading law firm based in Dublin, we have always been mindful of the strategic importance of technology in developing the practice as well as servicing clients in an efficient and cost effective manner.
In order to ensure we remain at the leading edge we undertook a strategic review in December 2010 with our technology partner Prosalis, the aim of which was to create a game plan for technology refresh in 2011. The project which entailed replacement of all hardware over five years old including servers and pcs was agreed by the partners in April 2011 with implementation to follow in late summer. In light of our discussions at that time, we took the opportunity to assess cloud technologies aligned with our business needs that might also be incorporated into the project.
The project was completed in stages over a three week time frame, mainly out of hours and with minimal disruption. It came in on time and on budget with the following key results:
- All pcs are now running the latest Microsoft platform Windows 7
- All staff migrated to Office 2010
- New servers with latest Windows 64bit
- Much more stable environment
In terms of our cloud initiatives, we decided to move to a cloud based security suite for malware protection and anti-spam available through the Prosalis Managed Services offering. In addition we transferred our backup regime from an in-house tape based system to an online backup solution which is fully managed by Prosalis. We intend to continue our cloud strategy and will shortly migrate our in-house Exchange Email System to the Microsoft Office 365 cloud.
All in all, a very successful outcome for the firm thanks to the diligence and care shown by the Prosalis team.
